The Ford Explorer is a mid-size SUV which in the past had experienced rollover difficulties. Because it is a SUV, the Ford Explorer's suspension features high performance springs. The springs in the Ford Explorer are integrated into the suspension system but are easy to access.
Instructions
- 1
Raise the Explorer and block the wheels with jack stands before taking off the shock and spring assembly.
2Compress the spring with the spring compressor until the tension is released. The spring holds a great deal of pressure and can be potentially dangerous. Exercise caution when releasing the pressure.
3Separate the shock absorber assembly from the spring by removing the shock mounts and washers.
4Replace the old spring with the new spring. The new spring should be attached over the shock absorber before slipping the upper shock mount into position.
5Reassemble the shock assembly and reattach the compressor to the spring.
6Connect all removed components to the Explorer and lower the vehicle before making final adjustments to the springs and suspension.
