The Ford Explorer is a mid-size SUV which in the past had experienced rollover difficulties. Because it is a SUV, the Ford Explorer's suspension features high performance springs. The springs in the Ford Explorer are integrated into the suspension system but are easy to access.

Instructions

    1

Raise the Explorer and block the wheels with jack stands before taking off the shock and spring assembly.

    2

Compress the spring with the spring compressor until the tension is released. The spring holds a great deal of pressure and can be potentially dangerous. Exercise caution when releasing the pressure.

    3

Separate the shock absorber assembly from the spring by removing the shock mounts and washers.

    4

Replace the old spring with the new spring. The new spring should be attached over the shock absorber before slipping the upper shock mount into position.

    5

Reassemble the shock assembly and reattach the compressor to the spring.

    6

Connect all removed components to the Explorer and lower the vehicle before making final adjustments to the springs and suspension.
