Although Geo Trackers haven't been manufactured for a few years, there are still plenty of them on the road. Ensuring a long life for a Geo Tracker means maintaining them properly and taking care of repairs as needed. If the oil pan gasket needs to replaced, it's a fairly straightforward job on Trackers through 1994. Here's how to change the oil pan gasket on a Tracker model from before with a 1.3-L engine.
Instructions
- 1
Use a wrench to remove the skid plate under the vehicle, if one is included in your Geo Tracker.
2Locate the plug on the under side of the drain pan and place a bucket under the plug. Loosen the plug with the wrench and remove it with your fingers so it doesn't fall in the bucket. Remove the clutch inspection cover.
3Remove the bolts holding the oil pan and carefully take off the oil pan. Scrape off the old gasket and wipe out the pan with a clean rag. Clean the joining surface with a rag dipped in solvent.
4Run a bead of silicone gasket around the joining surface and quickly replace the oil pan. Tighten the bolts starting at the center and working to the ends.
5Put the drain plug back on with a new washer.
6Replace the clutch inspection cover and the skid plate, if applicable. Let the silicone gasket set up for at least 30 minutes, then add 4 qt. of fresh motor oil.
7Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more if necessary. Geo Metro models require approximately 4.5 qt. of motor oil.
