The headlights on your Dodge Durango are vital in providing visibility and in keeping your family safe on the road. However, if you've owned your vehicle for very long, it's likely that one of the headlight bulbs will eventually burn out. There's no need for a costly visit to the dealership to replace the bulb, when you can follow just a few simple steps and do it yourself.

Instructions

    1

Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition. Double check to make sure you've turned the headlights completely off.

    2

Open the hood by pulling up on the interior hood release located under the left side of the instrument panel. Then, exit the SUV and push the safety latch located on the front of the Dodge Durango between the grille openings left of the center to the right to open the hood.

    3

Locate the three bolts that hold the headlight assembly in place. There are two on the bottom of the assembly and one on top that attaches to the inner fender panel.

    4

Shine a light between the bottom of the headlight and bumper and between the headlight and fender and you should be able to see all three bolts. You can access the top nut by removing the fender panel access door located in the wheel liner. Use a socket wrench with a ratchet extender to remove the bolts and then put them in a safe place.

    5

Pull the headlight out firmly to release it from the fender. Be careful not to scratch the paint of your Dodge Durango or alter the aim of the headlamps. Remove the lock ring with a counterclockwise quarter-turn.

    6

Remove the bulb connector by pulling and releasing the red tab on the connector. Loosen the connector by pressing down on the black or green release located above the red tab.

    7

Disconnect the bulb from the assembly by pulling it straight out. Install the replacement headlight bulb into the headlight assembly.

    8

Replace the remaining components of the headlight assembly back into the SUV in the reverse order of removal. Fasten the bolts tightly before closing the hood. Turn your Dodge Durango on and verify your headlights are working properly.
