How to Change a Headlamp in a 2000 Ford Expedition

The bulbs in your Ford Expedition's headlamps will burn out over time like, any light bulb. Because the lights are an important safety feature, change a burned out headlamp immediately. Take care not to get any natural oils from your hands on the bulb glass or you will damage it.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and disconnect the truck's negative battery cable. Leave the hood open so you can access the headlamp from the rear.

    2

Push the retaining clips for the headlamp housing rearward; these clips are near the top of the headlamp and front frame of the truck. Pull the clips upward after pushing to release the headlamp housing.

    3

Pull the headlamp housing out and away from the truck so you can access the bulb's retaining ring from the back of the lamp.

    4

Rotate the bulb's retaining ring counterclockwise from the back and withdraw the bulb and retaining ring from the headlamp housing. Pull the bulb straight out to remove it from the socket assembly.

    5

Insert the new bulb into the socket assembly, making sure you don't touch the bulb's glass with your bare fingers. Insert the socket with the bulb into the headlamp housing and tighten the retaining ring.

    6

Position the headlamp housing back into place on the truck and install the housing retaining clips.

    7

Re-connect the battery cable and close the hood.
