The PCV valve is an important component of your car. It helps regulate crankcase fumes so the fumes don't explode in the case of a car backfiring. The PCV valve on a car also helps seal the engine properly. You should inspect your valve to make sure it is working properly.

Instructions

    1

Locate your PCV valve. It is usually located near or directly on the intake manifold of your engine.

    2

Check the hoses that attach to the PCV valve for cracks or fluid that has dripped out and stained the hoses. Feel the hoses for any soft spots. This can indicate a weak spot. If you see or feel any of these, they must be replaced.

    3

Inspect the air and crankcase filters. If there's debris or oil in them, replace them. It could also indicate a clog in the valve itself.

    4

Pull the valve and check for corrosion or oil. If the filters or the valve shows evidence of oil or corrosion, it is time to replace the valve.
