The Dodge Caravan, first introduced in 1984, shares a number of mechanical similarities with its sister vehicles the Chrysler Town and Country and the Plymouth/Chrysler Voyager. As with these sister vehicles, the Dodge Caravan relies heavily on Mopar brand fluids. These steps apply to all model years of the Dodge Caravan.

Instructions

    1

Keep Mopar ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid on hand for use in a wide variety of applications. You can use it to refill or top off the fluid in your power steering reservoir, your all wheel drive overrunning clutch and your automatic transmission.

    2

Use Mopar gear lubricant in 75W90 viscosity in your all-wheel drive power transfer unit and your all-wheel drive rear carrier.

    3

Maintain the effectiveness of your Dodge Caravan's braking system by using Mopar DOT 3 and SAE J1703 brake fluid. Unlike many smaller passenger vehicles, it's acceptable to use DOT 4 or DOT 4+ brake fluid in your Caravan if DOT 3 is not available. Use only recommended brake fluids to avoid damage to or failure of your brake system.

    4

Mix Mopar antifreeze 5-year formula with hybrid organic additive technology into an equal measure of distilled or soft, demineralized water. This 50-50 blend helps your engine's cooling system run effectively.

    5

Run API certified engine oil that meets material standard MS 6395. A 5W-30 viscosity is preferred, but 10W-30 may be used if 5W-30 isn't available or if temperatures aren't expected to fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit before the next oil change.
