You may notice your car window defroster doesnt seem to be working right. It either leaves patchy places or it doesnt work at all. Do not worry. This is part of the wear and tear that you can expect from your vehicle. Often times your belongings in the back of the car will scratch the rear window glass. As a result, your car window defroster stops working.
Instructions
Check the Fuses
- 1
Check the fuse box to verify that the fuse is still working for the rear window defroster.
2Test the fuse by using a voltmeter.
3Replace the fuse with a fuse that is identical to it.
Repairing the Terminals
- 4
Locate the terminals on the edges of the rear window. If they are missing, you need to solder them back on.
5Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol and a 60-40 rosin core solder. Acid core solder is not recommended as it will eat away your auto parts over time.
6Heat your soldering gun and work as quickly as possible to solder the terminals back on by using a 200 watt soldering gun or iron.
7Schedule an appointment to have a mechanic do the work for you if you are not comfortable with your soldering skills.
