Vacuum leaks and torn air boots cause a vehicle to perform poorly. These leaks allow for a lean mixture inside the engine making it work harder upon start up. An air intake boot can be torn or cracked. The boot is easy to replace.

Instructions

    1

Check the pliability of the intake boot. With age, the boot becomes hard like an inflated tire.

    2

Run a finger between the ribbing on the hose to check for holes in the boot.

    3

Turn the clamp screws on the intake boot to make sure they are tight. Also tighten the clamps on the hoses from the air filter.

    4

Decide if you want to use auto duct tape to repair any damage you found to the car intake system.

    5

Use at least one full roll of auto duct tape to make the repairs. Wrap the tape around and around the damaged area until all air leaks are covered.

    6

Find a new intake boot to replace the old one with the new. This is a better option than duct tape.

    7

Inspect the intake boot every time you change the oil in the vehicle.
