The Ion came on the scene in 2003 as Saturn's effort to capture young buyers. Despite the design and the solid power of a 2.2L engine, the Ion was discontinued in 2007. The steps below detail the installation of a new turn signal switch.
Instructions
- 1
Use the steering wheel to align the front wheels so they are oriented straight ahead. Set the ignition to LOCK. Access the fuse block and take out the fuse to disarm the Supplemental Restraint System.
2Remove the screws and take off the lower and upper steering column covers. Disengage the harness connector from the turn signal switch.
3Take out the screws that secure the multifunction turn signal switch to the steering column. Remove the switch from the column.
4Set the new multifunction turn signal switch in place on the steering column. Put the screws in place by hand then torque them to 17 inch lbs.
5Reconnect the harness connector to the switch. Place the upper and lover steering column cover on the column and secure them with the retaining screws.
6Rearm the air bag system by setting the ignition to LOCK and removing the key. Install the fuse for the SRS. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to RUN. Monitor the SIR indicator light until it flashes seven times to indicate that the system is enabled.
7Start the engine. Verify that the turn signals and hazard flashers are properly installed and working.
