How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus is a popular mid-size vehicle, first introduced in 1986 and has continued to be manufactured until the present. The current popular model years of the vehicle are the 2000 through 2007 models, while the 2008 model Taurus is a full-sized vehicle.

Open the hood of the Taurus and locate the battery box. The battery box is positioned towards the front of the vehicle, on the right side. Use a wrench to disconnect the negative battery cable by loosening the bolt holding it in place.

Raise the car using a jack and jack stands, as directed by the manufacturer of them. Follow all safety precautions. Remove the right front inner wheel splash shield. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove it.

Take out the dual converter Y-pipe that is located on the front of the engine, running to the bottom of the car. Use a wrench to disconnect and remove it.

Use wire and attach the exhaust system to the frame of the car (which is loose, since it is no longer attached using the Y-pipe).

Drain the engine oil by placing an oil drain pan under the vehicle's oil pan and removing the oil drain plug located at the back of the oil pan. This will allow the oil to stream down into the pan. Wait 10 minutes or until all oil has been removed.

Install and then tighten the drain plug (which you just removed to allow oil to drain). Locate the oil filter in the Taurus, located under the vehicle, at the back of the engine. Discard the filter and replace with a new one before reinstalling the oil pan.

Unscrew the bolts and nuts holding the engine to transaxle bracket in place. Set aside and the bracket should come off. Find the torque converter inspection cover, located on the oil pan. Remove the bolts holding it in place using a wrench. Rotate each of the 18 bolts holding the oil pan in place and remove. The bolts are located around the outside edge of the oil pan, holding in place.
