The Toyota Solara, like most cars, has a rear package tray between the rear seat and the rear glass. On some models, the third brake light assembly is stored on top of the package tray. The most common reason you'd need to remove the package tray is to access the Solara's rear speaker or subwoofer, which are located underneath. Expect the package tray removal procedure to take about 20 minutes.

Instructions

    1

Shut off the Solara's engine. Set the parking brake lever for safety. Move to the back seat.

    2

Lift the knob on each side of the rear seatback and push the seatback downward to fold it. This gives you better access to the pillar trim panels and the package tray.

    3

Pry around the edges of the rear pillar trim panel with the trim stick. As you do so, the clips on the panels will pop away from the frame, allowing you to remove the trim panels. Remove the trim panel on each side. The rear pillar trim panel is the plastic panel between the rear glass and the roof on each side.

    4

Grasp the third brake light assembly. Pull the assembly toward the front of the Solara, and then pull it up to remove it. Unplug the wiring harness from underneath and set the assembly to the side. If your Solara has a spoiler, the third brake light assembly is mounted in the spoiler. It's not necessary to remove it.

    5

Pry along the front edge of the package tray with the trim stick. As you do so, the clips connecting the package tray to the Solara will pop free. Work your way around the perimeter of the package tray to free it, and then lift it away to remove it.
