The first Kia Sedona rolled off the assembly line in 2002. Hyundai, Kia's manufacturer, indicates oil changes at every 7,500 miles for the Kia Sedona. Many manufacturers list high mileage numbers, prior to oil changes to sell the fact that their vehicles will go further with less service. Everything being equal, the Kia was built to the same standards as other vehicles, which requires changing the oil every 3,000 miles to prevent sludge build-up in the engine. The Kia uses a paper filter cartridge found on the driver's side of the engine below the exhaust manifold. The Sedona takes 6.4 quarts of 5W30 oil during an oil and filter change.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and remove the plastic top engine cover by removing the four bolts with a socket. Raise the car with the floor jack and place jack stands under the subframe. Lower the car to rest on the jack stands.

    2

Place the drain pan under the oil pan and remove the drain plug with a socket. Allow the oil to drain for ten minutes. Install the drain plug and tighten it snugly. Move the drain pan under the oil filter housing on the passenger side of the Kia under the exhaust manifold.

    3

Remove the oil filter-housing cap from under the hood by turning it counterclockwise with the oil filter wrench. Lift the paper-cartridge oil filter out of the housing. Install the new O-ring on the filter-housing cap. Dip your finger in the oil and run it around the surface of the oil filter's O-ring.

    4

Place the oil filter cartridge in the filter housing and thread the cap on clockwise. Snug the cap down slightly with the oil filter wrench. Do not make it too tight or it will never come off again.

    5

Replace the plastic engine cover, the four bolts and tighten. Fill the engine with just over 6 quarts of 5W30 oil. Check the oil on the dipstick to ensure oil reaches the "Full" mark. Replace the oil cap. Pull the drain pan from under the car and lower it to the ground.
