The Nissan Pathfinder has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The Nissan Pathfinder comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

Instructions

    1

Determine which fuel pump your Nissan Pathfinder will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models built from 1991 to 1995 came with a 2.5 L K, 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72, 3.3L EGA or 3.8 L EGH engine. Models made after 1995 may have a 2.4 L EDZ, 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72, 3.3 L EGA or 3.8 L EGH engine.

    2

Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the fuel filler hose from the fuel tank. Disconnect the evaporative emissions hose and vent pipe from the fuel pump assembly. Remove the fuel tank shield and the drive shaft.

    3

Support the fuel tank with a hydraulic jack and take off the bolts on the fuel tank strap with a socket wrench so that you can lower the tank. Unplug the fuel pump's electrical connection and fuel supply hose.

    4

Remove the lock ring on the fuel pump with tool J-45722 and take out the fuel pump. Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit.

    5

Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.

    6

Check for leaks by turning the ignition on without starting the engine.
