The alternator in a Plymouth Voyager operates various electrical devices in the vehicle while the engine is running. A voltage regulator keeps the voltage level constant and is usually part of the alternator assembly. You may need to replace the alternator if your headlights become dimmer while driving or your battery repeatedly runs down.

Instructions

    1

Determine which alternator your Plymouth Voyager will need. You'll want to be sure the new alternator is compatible with your Voyager's engine. Models from 1991 to 1995 came with a 2.5 L K, 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72, 3.3L EGA or 3.8 L EGH engine. Models made after 1995 may have a 2.4 L EDZ, 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72, 3.3 L EGA or 3.8 L EGH engine.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench and remove the windshield wiper motor assembly. Take the accessory drive belt off of the alternator. Remove the top mounting bolt and then the bottom mounting bolt for the alternator with a socket wrench.

    3

Lift and rotate the alternator to access the wiring harness. Hold the alternator as you unplug the push-in field connector for the alternator. Remove the B+ terminator nut and detach the battery lead. This will allow you to remove the alternator assembly.

    4

Connect the B+ wire to the new alternator assembly. Tighten the terminator nut 75 inch pounds with a torque wrench and plug in the field wire connector. Place the alternator into the mounting bracket and connect the bottom mounting bolt followed by the top mounting bolt. Torque both bolts to 40 foot pounds pounds.

    5

Install the accessory drive belt and windshield wiper assembly. Connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.
