If you need or want to replace the door panels on your Ford Expedition vehicle, removing the old panels is the first step. Removing a panel is also needed if you need to inspect or repair anything stored within the door, like the windows and their regulators. You need to remove all devices connected to the Expedition's door, including the window controls and the door handle, before you can remove the panel itself.

Instructions

    1

Unplug the cable from the Expedition battery's negative terminal. This is especially necessary if the vehicle has power windows.

    2

Detach and remove the window crank (hand roller) if the Expedition has manual windows. Insert a hooked tool behind the panel to reach and remove the retainer clip, then pull the handle off. An auto parts store can sell a tool specifically for this.

    3

Remove the control panel on the armrest if the vehicle has power windows. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the panel plate off and disconnect the electrical connectors.

    4

Unscrew the retaining screws that are behind the control plate and the courtesy lamp housing. Pull off the triangular trim cover near the side mirror and detach the retaining clip behind it with a small Phillips screwdriver.

    5

Pry off the small circular trim cover near the door handle, remove the screw behind it and remove the handle. Pry out the plastic retaining clip securing the main trim panel at the font edge.

    6

Lift the pan up and away from the door and disconnect all its electrical connectors to remove it. If you need to access the inner door, carefully peel back the watershield. This shield must be pressed back into place before re-installing the door panel.
