Introduced in 1990, the Chrysler Town & Country is a luxury minivan. No matter which model van you have, keeping the windshield clean helps it look shiny and new. Using your windshield washer fluid helps you do this. However, if you've just filled the reservoir and found you don't have any fluid, check for a leak. Then, locate the leak and replace the reservoir.
Instructions
- 1
Arrange for a new windshield washer reservoir, before working on your Chrysler Town & Country. This will save you time later, since you won't have to dismantle your van twice. The part number depends on the year of your Town & Country.
2Park your van on a level surface to check for a leak. Turn it off, put on the emergency brake and pull the hood release, which is on the left side of the steering wheel under the instrument panel.
3Get out of your Chrysler Town & Country, go to the front of the van and find the auxiliary release. Raise the hood with your hands until the hydraulic lift kicks in and opens it fully.
4Check your windshield washer reservoir for a leak. The reservoir in the Town & Country is in the engine compartment on the left side below the air-cleaning filter.
5Start by disconnecting the battery's negative cable. Always wait 90 seconds before continuing, if your Chrysler Town & Country is equipped with air bags.
6Remove the engine air housing, disconnect the washer hoses and unscrew the filler tube screw. Jack up your Town & Country, support it with jack stands and take off the right front tire.
7Free the right front wheelhouse splash shield to get to the windshield washer reservoir by taking off the five plastic rivets holding the splash shield. Next, undo the electrical body harness connector by sliding the red lock to the release position, push in the black tab and release it from the pump or sensor. This will give you complete access to the windshield washer reservoir.
8Undo all the leads to your reservoir, including any hoses, guide wires and mounting screws. Take the windshield washer reservoir out through the fender opening. Release the washer pump by pulling the upper retention tab. Throw away all the old reservoir's seals, as you'll need to replace these when you install the new reservoir.
9Install the new windshield washer reservoir by first putting the pump in it. Then, place the reservoir back in your Chrysler Town & Country through the fender opening, reconnect all the leads--including the electrical body harness connector--and replace the seals.
10Reassemble the right front wheelhouse splash shield, put on your tire, remove the jack stands and lower your van. Then, fix the engine air housing and reconnect the negative cable to your battery. Make sure you put everything back exactly as you found it to ensure everything works properly and fill the new reservoir with windshield washer fluid before testing it.
