How to Replace a 2001 Toyota Sienna Headlight

Any headlight bulb that burns out on your Toyota Sienna van needs to be replaced immediately. On the 2001 model Sienna, you can remove and replace the bulbs without removing the actual headlight housing. You will need to remove and replace the housing, however, if it is broken or damaged. The headlight assembly has two separate housings--one for the headlight and one for the side marker light.

Instructions

Removing the Bulb

    1

Open the hood and disconnect the headlight's electrical connector at the rear end of the headlight.

    2

Remove the rubber cover over the headlight bulb. Release the retaining spring (which is in a misshapen U shape) securing the bulb and then remove the bulb from the housing.

    3

Insert the replacement bulb into the housing, making sure you don't touch the bulb's glass with your bare hands. Install the retaining clip on the bulb.

    4

Place the rubber cover back over the bulb. The tab marked "Top Pull" on the cover needs to be at the top.

    5

    Re-connect the electrical connector.

Installing the Bulb

    6

Remove the headlight bulb as described in Section 1.

    7

Remove the screw connecting the side marker light housing to the headlight housing bracket using a Phillips screwdriver, then pull out the side light housing.

    8

Unscrew the retaining bolts for the headlight housing using a wrench. There should be one at the top corner, one on the side and one at the rear. Pull the housing out of the vehicle.

    9

Install the replacement housing on the vehicle and apply the mounting bolts.

    10

Install the side marker light and connect it with the mounting screw, then install the headlight bulb.
