The 2002 PT Cruiser uses two main engine mounts, one on each side of the engine. If you are going to install new motor mounts on the car, you will need to remove the old mounts. You should install new mounts if the rubber layering on the old ones is cracked, hardened or separating off of the metal. The most important thing is to make sure there is no weight from the engine on the mounts as you remove or install them.
Instructions
Removing the Old Mounts
- 1
Disconnect the car's negative battery cable.
2Raise the front end and support it on jack stands.
3Loosen the hose clamp connecting the air-intake tube to the air-filter housing using a screwdriver. Unclip and remove the filter housing's cover and then pull the housing assembly off its grommets.
4Unscrew and remove the bolts securing power distribution center to the left engine mount and the battery tray, using a wrench.
5Raise a floor jack under the transmission with a piece of wood on the jack to protect the transmission. The jack needs to take the weight off of the engine mounts.
6Remove the bolts for each engine mount with the wrench and remove the mounts. Unbolt and remove the mounts one at a time.
Installation
- 7
Apply a thread-locking compound to the threads of the engine-mount bolts.
8Install each mount into position and apply the bolts with your wrench.
9Lower the jack off the transmission and remove it once both mounts are securely bolted in place.
10Apply the bolts to the bracket securing the power distribution center to the battery and left mount.
11Install the air-filter housing, making sure the positioning pins are seated within the rubber grommets. Clip the cover on and connect the intake hose with its clamp.
12Lower the car off the jack stands and connect the battery cable.
