The taillights in a Honda CRV vehicle are used for a multitude of tasks, including the turn signals, brakes and flashers. The bulbs for all of these lights are contained within an assembly inside the tailgate of the vehicle. If any one of these bulbs burns out, it needs to be replaced immediately, especially before you drive the vehicle at night. This process can vary depending on the year of the CRV.

Instructions

    1

Open the tailgate and pry off the trim covers for the taillight assembly mounting screws--insert a flat screwdriver into the slot in each trim cover, using a piece of tape or clean shop rag on the screwdriver tip to protect the trim finish.

    2

Unscrew the two mounting screws for the taillight assembly--they will likely require a Phillips screwdrvier--and remove the taillight assembly from the tailgate.

    3

Rotate the bulb holder for the bulb that needs changing counterclockwise and pull it out to remove it with the bulb. From top to bottom, the assembly normally contains the turn signal, brake light, side marker and backup light bulbs.

    4

Pull the light bulb out of the holder.

    5

Insert the replacement bulb into the holder by pushing it directly in. Wear latex or rubber gloves so you don't touch the glass with your bare fingers.

    6

Install the bulb holder in place and turn it clockwise by a quarter turn to lock it in. Repeat the bulb removal/installation process for any other taillight bulbs that need changing.

    7

Connect the light assembly back within the tailgate, making sure the assembly's locator pins line up with the correct holes in the tailgate pillar. Apply the mounting screws and press the trim covers back in place.
