Subaru offers the Outback in the mid 1990s as a response to American drivers' desire for the elevated seating and ruggedness of the trendy SUV coupled with better fuel economy. Making the most of the most desirable SUV features, Outback came with special details inside and out, as well as a raised suspension for a better ride. Begin by using the steering wheel to align the two front wheel is the "straight ahead" position. Then disconnect both cables from the battery. Wait at least ten minutes to assure that the Safety Restraint System (air bag system) has been disabled.
2Take out the steering wheel, taking care not to turn it. Remove both the steering column covers in order to access the combination switch.
3Loosen the two screws on the combination switch, then remove them. Take out the combination switch.
4Check the new switch to make sure it is in the OFF position. Set the combination switch in place and secure it with the two retraining screws.
5Replace the steering column covers and secure them. Reinstall the steering wheel.
6Attach both battery cables to the terminals. Reactivate the Safety Restraint System.
7Start the engine. Check for proper operation of the turn signals and the hazard flashers.
