If a door on your Dodge truck is sagging, especially once you open it, the problem is likely a worn and bent hinge. Any damaged hinges need to be replaced, as a sagging door is a bigger problem than you might think; it will eventually cause damage to the whole body frame. Replacing door hinges is a simple yet hard operation that will very likely require an assistant's help.

Instructions

    1

Open the door all the way and make sure it is supported. Place a block or raise a floor jack underneath the door, or tie the door by a chain to a truss or joist in the ceiling. You need an open ceiling with strong joists for the last option; this isn't recommended if you don't have your own auto workshop.

    2

Mark the locations of each hinge with a pen or a scribe for reference points. Remove the bolt fasteners for the hinges on both the door and body sides and remove the hinges, starting with the upper one if you're removing both. Have your assistant hold the door in place if you're removing both hinges and the door isn't being hung.

    3

Have your assistant carefully remove and set aside the door if you've removed both hinges. If you've only removed one hinge, the assistant can still help hold the door in place.

    4

Connect the replacement hinges using new bolts if possible and the markings to guide their position. Connect the hinge to the body side first especially if the door has been removed. Have your assistant hold and position the door and connect the hinges to it.

    5

Check the door's alignment; the top of the door (not including the window frame) needs to align with the top of the front fender and the top of the truck bed. Adjust if needed by loosening the hinge bolts, moving the door's position and tightening the bolts. Adjust the door lock striker on the door jamb in a similar fashion if needed.
