The oil pump in your Chevy Corvette lubricates the engine by keeping the oil circulating. The pump typically is located in the oil pan. If you want to change the oil pump, roll up your sleeves and get ready for some dirty work.

Instructions

Remove Old Oil Pump

    1

Drain the engine oil and the cooling system. Remove the negative battery cable and the engine front cover. Locate it under the engine; it looks like the bottom of the motor.

    2

Remove the oil pan and the oil pump on your Chevy Corvette, including the pump screen and the deflector. Check that the oil passages in your new pump and on the mounting surface, are free of contaminants and debris.

    3

Line the surface of the crankshaft sprocket with the oil pump drive gear, installing the pump. Torque the bolts to 18 ft-lb.

    4

Apply engine oil on the new O-ring seal and install it on the pickup tube. Torque this bolt to 106 in-lb and the nut to 18 ft-lb.

    5

Insert the oil pan and the engine front cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable on the Chevy Corvette.

    6

Refill the engine with fresh, synthetic oil and fill the cooling system again. Start your vehicle and check for leaks in the area you were working.
