How to Use Black As Undercoat for Burgundy on Cars

It is a popular technique among auto professionals to get a black undercoating done for the cars that want to spot another color like burgundy, making the color more pronounced and richer looking. A professional paint job can be very costly, but you can make your car look a brand new burgundy by following a few easy steps. The cost of an at-home paint job is much less than that of a professional.

Instructions

    1

Wash your car thoroughly making sure all the dirt and dust have been removed.

    2

Use the sandpaper (metallic) to remove any rust that has accumulated in the underside of the car. It is important to clean out the rusty spots before the car is undercoated in a black color. Apply the towel repeatedly to the rusty areas and make sure the surface shines when you are finished cleaning it.

    3

Mix the degreasing solution of Trisodium Phosphate with some hot water and apply it to the rusty areas. Use a sponge or a cloth, whichever you are comfortable with. The grease should be totally wiped clean from the surface of the undercarriage before undercoating with a black paint.

    4

Cover the parts of the car that you don't want to look burgundy with a masking tape- windows and mirrors in addition to the wheels.

    5

Apply the primer to the car and wait for it to dry out completely. It should be done in about 24-48 hours, depending on the humidity in the room.

    6

Sand the car again by using the sand paper to smooth out any rough edges that still remain.

    7

Apply the black paint as an undercoat to the car using a spray gun. Wait for it to dry and then apply a second coat.

    8

Wait for for the paint to dry. Feel it with your hands to ensure the coat is completely dry.

    9

Apply the burgundy paint with a spray gun on the same areas and wait for it to dry completely.

    10

Apply a clear coat of paint in the end to seal in the color of burgundy on the car.
