The oil pump is an essential piece of equipment that keeps your Mazda 6 running. It lubricates the engine by keeping the oil circulating. This pump usually is located in the oil pan. If you can get under the car with room to work, it's easy to replace.
Instructions
- 1
Drive your Mazda 6 up onto ramps or lifts. If you use a jack, brace the front wheels so they don't roll. Set the emergency break.
2Take out the oil pan and strainer. Remove the oil pump chain guide, tensioner, spring and chain. Use Tool 49 G032 354 to remove the oil pump sprocket without the pump rotating. Take off the bolts and the oil pump.
3Replace the old pump with the new model. Tighten the bolts in two steps starting with the upper left, the lower right, the lower left and then the upper right. In the first step, tighten the bolts to 71 to 105 in-lb; in the second step, tighten them to 12.6 to 17 ft-lb.
4Use the Tool 49 G032 354 to install the oil pump sprocket without the pump rotating. Reinstall the oil pump chain, spring, tensioner and guide, oil strainer and oil pan.
5Fill the engine with fresh oil and start the Mazda 6. Check for leaks.
