If the turn signal in your Plymouth Neon begins to malfunction and you've already checked the signal bulb, then the next step may be to replace the turn signal relay. This replacement is relatively simple and something most anyone can accomplish even with limited knowledge of auto mechanics. All you need is the ability to follow some simple directions and a screwdriver.

Instructions

    1

Locate the relay panel on the Plymouth Neon. On the Neon, you'll find it underneath the steering column housing. When removing the steering column panel make sure to disable the air bag before you removal.

    2

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the steering column panel to gain access to the turn signal relay. Place the screws in a safe place, so you won't lose them.

    3

Look on the underside of the steering column panel to see if there's a relay location diagram. If there isn't one, try taking the new turn signal relay and comparing it to the installed part to find the matching relay.

    4

Remove the defective turn signal relay and replace it with the new relay. Make sure you're careful during the removal and replacement, as you can damage the new relay and the parts in the vicinity.

    5

Activate the turn signal on the Plymouth Neon to verify the problem no longer exists. If you're still having issues, recheck the installation of the new relay. Should the malfunction persist, it could be a larger elctrical system issues.

    6

Put the steering column cover back into place and dispose of the old turn signal relay, if the repair worked.
