The Chevy Avalanche is a sport utility truck manufactured in several models and has multiple accessory packages. Installing the ABS relay on the Chevy Avalanche requires removal of the ABS control module. The Avalanche's ABS relay is integrated with the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and must be replaced as a unit.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the battery's negative cable and thoroughly clean the area around the Electro-hydraulic Control Unit (EHCU) before disconnecting the electrical harness connectors.

    2

Disconnect the five brake lines. Remember to mark each to insure it is properly reconnected later.

    3

Remove the bolts from the EHCU mounting bracket and lift the assembly out of the Avalanche. You will replace the bolts when reinstalling the replacement unit.

    4

Disassemble the EHCU assembly in order to disconnect the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) by disconnecting the mounting brackets and pump motor connectors. Set aside the old EBCM.

    5

Clean the area where the EBCM connects to the Brake Pressure Module Valve. This area needs to be completely free of contaminants to insure a proper seat of the two within the Electro-hydraulic Control Unit assembly.

    6

Reinstall the assembly in reverse order making sure to replace the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to manufacturer's specifications and reconnecting the brake lines.

    7

Reconnect the battery's negative cable. Bleed the brake system.
