How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Dodge Intrepid

The Dodge Intrepid engine uses platinum tipped sparks plugs. These spark plugs are designed to last 60,000 to 100,000 miles. The Dodge Intrepid comes with three different engine choices: 2.7 L, 3.2 L and 3.5 L. All three engines require the same basic process for replacing spark plugs.

Turn off the ignition and allow the engine to cool. The time required for the engine to cool varies depending on climate.

Remove the intake manifold and locate the spark plug wires. These are situated across the sides of the Intrepid model's engine.

Grab the spark plug wires by their boot and turn them 180 degrees to the left to loosen the wire. Pull back on the boot to remove it from the spark plug.

Spray air into the cylinder to remove any dirt around the spark plug. Insert the socket into the well and unscrew the old spark plug. Pull the old spark plug out of the well.

Screw the new spark plug into the Dodge Intrepid model's engine. Do not use silicon or anti-seize on these spark plugs. Tighten the spark plug.

Test the plug for tension. For 2.7 L engines, tighten to 12.5 ft-lbs. For 3.5 L engines, tighten to 20 ft-lbs. The tension varies for the 3.2 L engine, so consult the spark plug packaging to find the correct tension.

Replace the spark plug wire. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for the remaining spark plugs.

Reattach the intake manifold.
