BMW Paint codes are complicated. Since the 1970's, the company has produced relatively few bikes finished in one solid color. Almost all have a color scheme with two to three components such as tinted lacquer or pin striping.
Finish Codes
BMW uses code numbers for all of its individual paint colors, but the consumer rarely uses these. The "Finish Code" located on a label under the bike seat will include details of all the different colors and primers used on your bike.
Glasurit
BMW Paints uses codes set up by industrial manufacturer Glasurit. Using a finish code, Glasurit can provide all the individual color codes used.
Individual Colors
A paint code can consist of undercoat, base coat, pin striping and lacquer, but you may only need one part to touch up a single component. Any Glasurit or BASF paint store can help you in obtaining individual colors that may be out of production elsewhere.
