The Hyundai Santa Fe is a crossover SUV which has been one the most popular mid-size SUVs of the past decade. The Santa Fe provides a smooth ride of a sedan along with the size of a SUV. The Santa Fe's springs are not difficult to service, and you don't need to use springs specifically from Hyundai to replace them.
Instructions
Replacing the Front Springs on the Hyundai Santa Fe
- 1
Raise the Santa Fe and securely support the suspension with jacks and jack stands. The Santa Fe is not a heavy vehicle, but as an SUV the suspension is heavy duty and needs to be supported properly.
2Remove the strut assembly and install a spring compressor. Double check the installation of the compressor before proceeding.
3Compress the spring with the compressor in order to remove it from the strut assembly. This step is potentially dangerous and you must be careful to guarantee the spring does not come loose and injure you.
4Compress the new spring and reinstall the strut components. Make certain to replace the self-locking nut and tighten it the specified level of pressure.
5Install the strut assembly onto the Santa Fe. Once again, do not over tighten the nuts and bolts.
6Lower the Santa Fe and remove the jack stands.
7Check the wheel alignment and realign if necessary.
Replacing the Rear Springs on the Hyundai Santa Fe
- 8
Raise the Santa Fe securely and block the wheels with jack stands.
9Take off the following: rear wheel, brake caliper assembly and nut, wheel speed sensor, parking brake assembly and cable, and the rear shock unit.
10Attach a spring compressor and lower the Santa Fe to take the pressure off the springs. This is potentially dangerous as the spring carries a lot of energy which must be released slowly.
11Replace the spring and inspect parts for signs of wear.
12Reattach the compressor and install the new spring.
13Reinstall all removed components and take away the spring compressor. Tighten all the nuts to the correct amount of pressure.
14Lower the Santa Fe and check the wheel alignment.
