People who love speed know that the more cool air an engine gets, the faster the vehicle goes. Pushing cool air into the carburetor is "gutting" or "ventilating." Speed enthusiasts want their cars to run leaner, which means maximizing ventilation.
Instructions
- 1
Work on a cool car. Make sure that you turn the steering wheel all the way to the left for easy access to the wheel closet, where the air intake is stored.
2Find the factory installed intake box under the hood. Unclamp the metal clips on the intake box, lift the cover and remove the filter.
3Run a hand along the intake pipe to find the point where the air flows into the engine. The pipe runs along the width of the engine.
4Take a flathead screwdriver and loosen the hose clamp. Remove the intake breather valve. Disconnect any wires attached to the valve.
5Guide the air box up and out of the intake box-remove the screw clips to complete this step.
6Hold the nuts under the wheel well with a wrench and then unscrew the clips.
7Force the air box away from the fender-do not tear the filter with a loosened screw.
