Your Chevy Silverado may have a mechanical (belt-driven) engine cooling fan or an electric engine cooling fan. These steps apply to replacing an engine fan in a Chevy Silverado 1500 with a gasoline engine. A novice should be able to complete these steps in about 30 minutes using only a wrench.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable on your Chevy Silverado.
2Unplug the fan harness wiring and electrical connectors.
3Loosen and remove the fan mounting bracket bolts. Lift the engine cooling fan out of the engine compartment and set it aside.
4Place the new fan assembly in the engine compartment and bolt it into place. A torque wrench may be helpful as these bolts should be tightened to 53 foot pounds (72 Nm) of torque.
5Make sure there are no loose parts or tools in the engine compartments, then reconnect the negative battery cable in your Chevy Silverado.
