A hole in the plastic fender of your car can cost a great deal of money to repair in a body shop. You can either spend the money to have it professionally repaired, leave the hole there if it isn't too unsightly, or repair the damage yourself. Learn how easy it is to repair a hole in the plastic bumper of your car for a fraction of the cost it would take to have a body shop do the same work.
Instructions
- 1
Cut two pieces of sturdy nylon mesh netting to affix to the front and back side of the hole in your plastic fender. Use 80-grit sandpaper to sand around the area of the hole to remove all rough edges. Glue the sturdy mesh netting over the hole in your fender on both the front and back sides. Use Super Glue or epoxy. Let the glue dry for an hour before proceeding.
2Spread body putty over the netting on both the front and back side of the damaged plastic fender. Apply more of the putty than you need to cover the hole. As you spread the putty around, apply enough pressure to force putty between the mesh netting to fill the hole completely.
3Use the putty knife to make the putty as flat as possible. Let the putty dry and then use a sanding block or a power sander to sand the putty down even to the plastic fender front and back.
4Finish the repair in one of two ways. Cover the putty with primer and then paint the plastic fender to match using paint from the car dealership or the nearest match you can find. This will give you a good visual fix.
Or, get a piece of plastic and affix it to the damaged plastic fender with epoxy. Then sand the edges of the plastic piece until they disappear. Match the paint color from the dealer and paint the plastic patch covering to match the fender.
