If you want to repair chips and small dings in your car's paint, the simplest way to do it is to use body filler. There are several body fillers available on the market, but most of them are polyester fillers. These will require mixing before using so that it will cure. Be sure to follow the directions on the package.

Instructions

    1

Mix the body filler according to manufacturer directions and place some of it on a smooth flat metal surface to be used as a pallet.

    2

Use a new straight razor blade to apply the filler to the chip. You want to use the least amount of filler as possible to fill the chip. Start with a very small amount and add more if needed. Take care to scrape off excess build up around the chip with the razor blade.

    3

Wait the length of time instructed on the package for the body filler to dry and cure.

    4

Sand the area that you have filled gently with 200 grit sandpaper. Then sand it again using a 300 grit piece of wet sandpaper.

    5

Wipe the area down with a clean wet cloth after the edges have been sanded smooth. Dry the surface thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.
