The 1999 Volkswagen Jetta&039;s passenger-side mirror is attached to the upper corner of the door, as it is in most modern cars. If your mirror is damaged, you&039;ll need to replace it as soon as you possibly can. Without a passenger-side mirror, you may have trouble changing lanes and seeing what&039;s coming up beside you on the passenger side of your vehicle. Depending on your local or state laws, it may also be illegal to drive with a damaged or missing mirror.
Instructions
- 1
Pop off the inside-mirror cover on the top-left side of the passenger door panel. You should be able to pull it off with your hands. If necessary, insert the edge of a flat-head screwdriver into the corner of the panel to help pry it off.
2Peel down the insulation cover located behind the inside-mirror cover. After peeling this down, you will see the mounting screws for the passenger-side mirror.
3Disconnect the power mirror wiring harness, if your car is equipped with power mirrors. If your Jetta does not have power mirrors, there will be no harness.
4Roll the passenger-side window down. Reach your arm through the window and grab the outside part of the passenger mirror. Hold onto it firmly to support it.
5Remove the three Phillips screws that secure the passenger mirror to the door. These screws are located behind the insulation cover. Pull the passenger-side mirror off from the outside.
6Insert the new passenger-side mirror. Be sure to line up the three prongs with the mounting holes. Support the outside part of the mirror and tighten the three Phillips screws. Plug the wiring harness in if your Jetta has power mirrors.
7Push up the insulation to re-attach it, and then push the inside-mirror cover firmly into place to snap it on.
