As frustrating it is to walk into your garage and find a dead battery on your motorcycle, it is much worse when you are on the road and away from your tools. The solution is to carry motorcycle jumper cables with you. They are much smaller than automobile jumper cables and fit easily in a motorcycle tank bag or tail bag. The best part is that they are easy and inexpensive to make.

Instructions

    1

Expose the end of the wires. Using a utility knife or wire stripper, expose 1/2 inch of wire on each end of the two wires. If the individual strands of wire are separated, twist them tightly.

    2

Attach the wires to the alligator clips. Remove the red handle cover from one side of a red clip. Crimp the handle to hold the wire in place and carefully solder the end of the wire to the clip. Slide shrink wrap tubing over the connection and use a heat source to shrink the wrap tight. Slide the red clip handle cover over the shrink wrap and back onto the wire.

    3

Complete the positive side of the jumper cable. Remove the red handle cover from the other red alligator clip and slide it onto the same wire as the other red clip. Then slide on a length of shrink wrap tubing. Solder the wire to the alligator clip, slide on the shrink wrap tubing and activate it, and complete this side of the cable by sliding the red handle cover onto the handle.

    4

Follow Steps 1 to 3 with the other wire and the black-handled alligator clips to complete the ground side of the jumper cables.

    5

Leaving 18 inches of wire loose on each end, connect the two wires together with electrical tape, forming a compact set of motorcycle jumper cables.
