Plymouth offered the front - wheel drive Neon one as a sedan. In an effort to compete with Japanese automakers, the Neon was fun to drive, offering a lot of power as well as fuel economy. In 2000, the Neon redesign lost its audience. On 1996-99, vehicles used a combination fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly, which is located on the top of the fuel pump module. The following steps guide you through the installation of a new fuel filter.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system and make sure that fuel does not spill or spray. Raise the vehicle and make sure the supports are properly placed and secure.

    2

Take the quick-connect fuel supply line from the nipple on the filter/regulator. Push down on the locking spring tab on the side of the fuel filter-regulator.

    3

Rotate the filter/regulator about 30 degrees and pull it out. Check to make sure that the upper and lower O-rings are intact on the filter assembly.

    4

Use clean engine oil and lightly coat the new filter O-rings. Position the filter in the opening in the fuel pump module. Align the two hold-down tabs with the flange.

    5

Rotate the filter clockwise while applying downward pressure. Turn it until the spring tab catches in the locating slot. Attach the fuel line to the filter/regulator assembly.

    6

Lower the vehicle carefully. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine to assure proper installation of the fuel filter.
