Fuel injectors are a key component to your vehicle's fuel system. It is important to maintain, clean and replace fuel injectors as needed. Performance fuel injectors can take your car to the next level with more horsepower, better fuel efficiency and an overall better running engine.
Instructions
- 1
Understand the basic functions of performance fuel injectors and the adjoining parts, so you know what is abnormal. If a fuel injector is doing it's job, the engine will run smooth, fire properly and enhance the function of the engine. They work with the fuel filter, cylinders and other components.
2Listen for indications of problems with fuel injectors. This could include lean misfires, hesitation, rough idle, loss of power and stumbling with light acceleration. Fuel injectors can clog which leads to the misfiring. The fuel filter can also clog, leading to faster wear on the fuel injectors.
3Check fuel injectors for grit, dust, dirt, grime, corrosion or other debris. A clean fuel injector is a productive fuel injector. You can also prevent clogging and accumulation of grit by using premium gas. Use a polyetheramine additive to protect them further.
4Replace the fuel injectors when needed -- at around 85,000 miles or when they fail. To extend the life of your performance fuel injectors, change the fuel filter often and keep them clean. Keep vigilant about leaks or your engine can burn, causing major damage.
