If you are driving an older version of the dodge Caravan, like a 1996 model, you will likely need to replace the light bulbs for the headlamps at some point. A lot of night driving will speed up this need. You will need to temporarily disconnect the headlamp assembly from the van itself so you can access and remove the bulb from the headlamp and install the new one. It's a good idea to replace both bulbs, even if just one has burned out.
Instructions
- 1
Loosen the cable clamp nut on the van's negative battery cable with a wrench--an insulated handle will give extra protection--and disconnect the cable, setting it where it won't contact the negative terminal.
2Unplug the electrical connector to the headlight, located in the rear of the headlamp's assembly.
3Loosen and remove the single bolt for the headlamp with your wrench; the bolt connects the headlamp's upper mounting bracket to the radiator support panel. Pull and remove the headlamp from its mounting hole from outside the van.
4Twist and remove the light bulb holder from the rear of the headlamp, turning it counterclockwise. Grab hold of the base of the light bulb and pull it from the holder.
5Grab hold of the replacement bulb with a cloth or while wearing gloves, to protect the glass, and push the bulb into the holder.
- 6
Install and turn the bulb holder (clockwise this time) into the headlamp housing.
7Install the headlamp back onto the van, putting the mounting bolt in the bracket and connecting the light's electrical connector.
8Reconnect the battery cable.
