Created in 1995 as a combination wagon and SUV, the Subaru Outback is still in production. Whether you have the original, the 2000 through 2004 design or the current design, the process for replacing a bad fuse is the same. You can perform the replacement in just a few minutes with no tools.

Instructions

    1

Turn your Outback off before you replace a fuse. Find one fuse box under the hood in the engine compartment. Locate the other fuse box to the left of the steering column.

    2

Open the fuse box and read the listing inside to find the fuse you need. In a 2000 Subaru Outback wagon, for example, the cigarette lighter fuse is found in slot 4 of the passenger area fuse box.

    3

Remove the fuse and check the silver wire inside. A blown wire is melted or broken and needs replacing.

    4

Push in a new fuse that has the same rating as the one you removed. The cigarette lighter example in Step 2 uses a 20 amp fuse.

    5

Restart your vehicle and test the new fuse to make sure it works.
