How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Plymouth Neon

Spark plugs for a Plymouth Neon are designed to last between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. Plymouth suggests you check and clean the spark plugs every 30,000 to 45,000 miles to ensure optimal performance. If the spark plugs are black and corroded when you check them, you need new spark plugs.

Raise the hood and allow the engine to cool. Do not pull a spark plug out of a warm engine.

Locate the spark plug wires plugged into the top of the engine block. Twist the end of one of the wires and pull it off the spark plug. Completely replace each spark plug before removing the next wire to eliminate confusion.

Insert the socket on the extension into the spark plug well. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise to loosen the plug. Pull the spark plug out of the well with the socket.

Lightly brush away debris from the spark plug well and from the end of the spark plug wire with the wire brush.

Apply anti-seize compound on the spark plug threads and inside the end of the spark plug wire.

Insert the new plug into the well and tighten it to 20 foot pounds.

Place the wire on the spark plug and turn clockwise until you hear a click.

Repeat for the remaining spark plugs.
